About Hearing Tests

A simple browser-based way to explore tones and understand what an online hearing range check can—and cannot—tell you.

What this website does

Hearing Tests provides an interactive listening experiment that plays low and high sine-wave tones through your browser. You report which tones you hear, and the tool displays the approximate lower and upper boundaries from that session. It is designed to make exploring sound frequencies straightforward, with no account, microphone access, or audio upload required.

How the tool works

The browser generates tones from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. After a comfortable reference tone, a short sequence explores the lower and upper ends of the range. Your latest result is saved in this browser so you can revisit it. Read how the hearing range test works for more detail about the method and listening setup.

What the result means

This is not a clinical hearing test, calibrated screening, or audiogram. The page cannot measure sound pressure at your ears, and headphones, speakers, device settings, room noise, and listening conditions all affect what you hear. The result is only a record of the tones you reported detecting on your current setup; it cannot diagnose or rule out hearing loss.

If you are concerned about your hearing or notice a change, contact a qualified hearing care professional. A sudden change in hearing needs urgent medical attention. You can also read our hearing test FAQs for answers about phone and home checks, hearing ranges, and the tool’s limits.
